Daughters of Doom

Daughters of Doom 2014 was Girl Skate Australia’s 6th annual ladies skateboarding event. The event is currently the largest ladies skateboarding event in Australia, consistantly attracting competitors from all over the country.   This year we took a punt and decided to have the contest at a well known OG Melbourne skate spot – Fitzroy Bowl. For years I’ve thought this would be the perfect place for an event of this nature as all the ladies i know who skate in Australia absolutely rip tranny to shreds.

Every single lady that showed up on Saturday, young and old, absolutely tore the park apart. Grommies Sophia Roth, Poppy Starr,  Hayley Wilson and little Ray Franco wow’d the crowd with skills well beyond their years, it’s always a treat to see that all your hard work has a purpose, seeing these ladies get better and better every year and be so stoked to be apart of such a positive event really does rule!

Top Aussie Lady rippers Izy Mutu, April Caslick and Shanae Collins took out 1st 2nd and 3rd Place respectively, watching these guys skate was absolutely mind blowing, everybody is progressing further and further every year and it’s such a great site for the grommies to see, not to mention all the blokes out there who still think ladies are doing nothing more than slash grinds and kick-turns.

Special shout outs go out to Evie Ryder and Gracie Earl who shredded especially hard, would love to see these guys climb up into the top 3 over the next year or two!

Fitzroy bowl was packed with spectators of all ages and backgrounds and it truly showed that ladies skateboarding in Australia is indeed of interest to the wider community! SO many people left with huge smiles on their faces and kind words about how inspiring they found the event. So from here it’s only onwards and upwards for GSA.

Huge Thanks go out to all of our sponsors: Creature Skateboards, Santa Cruz, Independent Trucks, Zoo York, Vans Footwear, Skatespots.com.au , 88 North,  OJ Wheels, The Victorian Skateboarding Association, Lady Killerz and Kuu for supporting the ladies and helping us get the event off the ground, without industry support the events wouldn’t be half of what they are today so Thank You!

Can’t wait to see ya’ll for an even bigger and better event next year! Now, go forth and enjoy all the media we could muster up from the day! – GSA
